A Perspective of One Important Risk Factor of Type 2 Diabetes in Hispanic and Asian Minorities - (Pages 1-5)
Abstract: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a rising problem worldwide. Sugar has been previously implicated. The current work presents evidences from multidisciplinary published studies to implicate wheat (gluten). The data used include comparing wheat consumption in different countries worldwide. That Hispanics and Asians, who have come to the USA recently, have higher incidences of T2DM and come from countries where wheat is not the number one grain staple is significant. There is a big change in the wheat (gluten) consumption of Hispanics and Asians. That wheat has been scientifically linked to over 200 autoimmune diseases is very significant. The facts introduced with evidence in the current work have shown that wheat and wheat products (containing gluten) are probably an important risk factor in T2DM.
